Connection as a foundation for safety and collaboration

Under the guidance of moderator Brandon Smeets, the training days kicked off with a plenary session on Monday, January 6. After a welcoming speech by Peter Vroom, an engaging interview with our management team followed, discussing all relevant topics, including a reflection on 2024.

Subsequently, the session “Brain-Based Safety in construction and infrastructure” was delivered by Brandon and Remko van Bakel. They provided insights into how the brain works and its impact on safety in daily practice. The importance of effective communication and collaboration took center stage, offering practical tools and valuable insights as key outcomes.

After a joint lunch, the group of employees was split up for two interactive workshops.

Workshop 1: Safety and collaboration from a different perspective

Sander van den Brandt and Remko van Bakel from KPE guided us through an interactive session on safety, communication, and collaboration. Drawing from his experiences as a team leader with the Justice Special Support Team (BOT), Sander, together with Remko, challenged us to translate this vision into our own work activities.
Special attention was given to themes such as addressing one another, avoiding complacency within teams, and fostering an open communication culture. Remko continuously made the connection to the construction sector, ensuring the workshop was directly applicable to our daily practice.

Workshop 2: The luck of misfortune – inspiring life lessons

Frank and his guide dog Jaap, along with Igor from IDDD, delivered an impressive workshop centered around Frank’s personal story. He transformed the loss of his sight into a powerful and positive outlook on life. Themes such as dependency, vulnerability, asking for and offering help, leadership, and perseverance were addressed in an inspiring manner.

Participants were encouraged to practice clear communication and mutual respect, emphasizing the understanding that everyone has something to offer others.

Day 2: Mandatory training for optimal safety

The second day focused entirely on (mandatory) training and courses. Under the professional guidance of Training Centre Crescendo in Hoorn, our employees participated in sessions such as first aid, TCVT refresher courses, load handling, and working at heights. This day was also meticulously organized, providing practical insights and skills that are directly applicable to our daily work.

Our training days were not only about sharing knowledge but also about building connections, personal growth, and strengthening our collaboration. Together, we work towards a safe, effective, and future-oriented working environment.
