Steel casing screw piles

Special attention is given to the vibration-free installation of steel casing screw piles (with or without grout injection) and screw injection piles. Both pile systems are increasingly being used in combination with foundation machines for infrastructure works, utility construction, residential construction and foundation repair.

Applications

  • Foundation repair
  • Internal industrial floors
  • Noise barriers
  • Urban redevelopment
  • Difficult-to-access locations
  • Critical situations
  • Residential construction

Characteristics

  • Pile system is 100% soil-displacing
  • Production technique is vibration-free
  • High load-bearing capacity when applying grout
  • Can be executed with grout recycling
  • Screw-in depth depends on the soil conditions and piles are screwed in to the calculated depth
  • Steel casing screw piles can be subjected to both compression and tension loads
  • Under certain conditions, the piles can be finished directly to level
  • Pipe segments can be connected to achieve greater depths

This piling system can also be installed using mini foundation rigs on sites with restricted working space or limited headroom, such as refurbishment projects, extensions and foundation repair works. In such cases, the steel tube is assembled from smaller tube sections, which are welded together during installation. The available headroom determines the length of the tube sections that can be screwed into the ground.

Technical data

Production techniques

  • Screwing with grout

Grout injection is pumped through a feed tube via an opening in the screw tip around the tube. This facilitates installation of the tubular pile to depth and increases the load-bearing capacity.

Screw injection piles

During the production of screw injection piles, a grout body combined with the surrounding soil is formed at the size of the screw tip.

Concrete quality

C20/25, C25/30, C30/37 and C35/45 quality.

Reinforcement

B500B quality. Dimensioning based on load data provided by the structural engineer.

Load-bearing capacity

The geotechnical load-bearing capacity according to Eurocode 7 (NEN 6743) depends on the application of grout.

Load and deformation behaviour

In accordance with displacement pile type.

Available pile diameters: screwed

Shaft diameter (screw tip diameter), dimensions in mm:

  • 168 (300)
  • 219 (350)
  • 273 (400)
  • 323 (450)
  • 356 (500)
  • 406 (556)
  • 456 (620)
  • 508 (680)
  • 559 (770)
  • 610 (850)
  • 711 (850)
  • 762 (950)
  • 813 (950)

The dimensions of the screw tip are tailored to the project. Larger and non-standard dimensions available on request.

Installation process

  1. Positioning of the steel casing with screw tip brought into the correct position at ground level.
  2. Hydraulic drilling installation, in combination with the pull-down force, screws the casing to the required depth.
  3. Finishing the pile.
  4. Inspection to ensure the tube is dry and free from contamination: suspending the reinforcement at level fitted with spacers.
  5. Filling with concrete mortar; casing remains in place.
  6. Completed.
