Education on the construction site

On a rainy morning, the students of primary school De Sterrenzanger from Alkmaar enthusiastically cycled to the construction site of the new Ringerskwartier in Alkmaar. Despite the rain, the children were undeterred and started the day full of curiosity and energy.

Upon arrival, the students received a comprehensive and engaging presentation from our client about the project. The presentation was not only informative but also interactive, giving the students the opportunity to ask all their questions. The gentlemen from Ringerskwartierbouw took the time to patiently and clearly answer each question, resulting in many happy faces and new knowledge.

After the presentation, it was time to explore the construction site in real life. With helmets on, the students stood at the edge of the construction pit, where our engineer Stanley explained the process of making foundation piles. Stanley shared his knowledge and demonstrated step-by-step what is involved. The children watched breathlessly and asked enthusiastic questions, clearly impressed by the craftsmanship involved in building.

After this educational morning, the students cycled back to school, where they learned more about the history of foundation work. This included an explanation and sketch of an old Dutch tripod and singing a corresponding centuries-old song that depicted how things used to be on the construction site (translation):

We pull the pile driver up, hooray!
We hoist, haul, and lower the ropes.

The pile driver falls. The iron clatters.
The pile head groans and the ground rumbles.

Let it roll along pulleys.
The pile sinks deeper.
As much as 17 meters into the ground of Alkmaar.

To conclude the day, a special ceremony was held at the school. As the icing on the cake, new sponsor shirts were presented by Vroom for the school’s sporting events. It gave the day a perfect ending.

Thanks to the excellent cooperation with our client, the students of De Sterrenzanger had a unique opportunity to experience the world of construction up close. A big compliment to all involved for their dedication and involvement in this valuable and educational project.

It was an unforgettable experience for the Sterrenzangers from Alkmaar.
