Work on the water

46 Piles86 Meter Foundation

Under the authority of KWS Infra, Vroom Foundation Technology has completed a special infra project. Near Spijkenisse, a traffic circle on Hekelingseweg was shifted to a location with running water. The water has not been filled in; the choice for a ‘hanging culvert’, a water tunnel, has been made instead.

The limited bearing capacity of the soil made it necessary to ground a new culvert. From a pontoon, 46 prefab concrete piles and 86 meters of prefab foundation beams were applied above water level. Subsequently, the culvert was placed without a drainage system.

Dimensioning process

Of course, setting out pickets on water is not possible so this was done on the spot by Vroom Dimensioning Service. The employee stands, directly with the Total Station, next to the pile that is hung off in the water in order to determine the correct position. KWT Infra is the market leader in the field of infrastructure, and is also actively involved in small-scaled constructive hydraulic engineering projects.
